As a writing and editing team, Sharon and Maureen have built Writing Fulcrum upon their decades of friendship and collaboration.

They met as doctoral students in English at the U of Washington (UW). Both of them researched and wrote about materialist cultural studies of race and gender in American literature. At the same time, they helped lead the effort to form a union for academic student workers at UW. Later, they worked together on union campaigns at other public and private universities.

They have returned to the craft of writing with an approach informed by their years of activism and political work, and a commitment to supporting writers at every stage of their careers, regardless of gender, race, sexuality, class, age, ability, religion, ethnic or national origin.
